The Singers Tale Covid-19 Last post of Summer 2020

Me.

A fern unfurling from deep sleep, the spring ringlets on the twisty nut tree gently unrolling, hanging like a willow or a celebratory garland .
Age snags. Suddenly I am an old woman.
The ends of my fern fronds are crispy and rusty, deep down I can almost see my birth beginnings. Looking backwards to where I began.

My hair has faded from pink to white. Can I be bothered to dress today? Let alone wash? As for making a phone call or a Zoom? I will be seen!

June 2020

Me.

There will always be good people…. tragically, its mainly, not always, the bad ones in power. We are living in a time when some of the worst are in that place. I guess we just have to hang on in hope… and cherish the good stories… I have been watching happy endings stuff on the tele… I need the happy endings and good people things like Repair Shop, Country File, Gardeners World & anything with Trains and journeys far and wide in it…. Uncle David Attenborough & listening to Radio… David Sedaris always makes me chuckle, like an American version of the gentle humour of – Alan Bennet & Victoria Wood. If I really want a belly laugh any youtube clip of Les Dawson. I do miss Linda Smith and Jeremy Hardy …. I watched Schitt’s Creek, and Queer Eye on Netflix. Made me smile and giggle and took me out of my isolated life… we all need the smiles right now…

OUR LEADERS?

Members of Parliament have been handed eight pay rises in the last ten years – while nurses have seen their average salary slashed by more than 7 per cent across the decade.

Home Secretary Priti Patel came under pressure to change her policy to make the Channel crossing ‘unviable’ after a 16 year old Sudanese boy drowned.

Me.

HELP! I have a phone crisis, over a week now. My Mobile died when I fell into my pond. I cannot complete my upgrade order until I have my pin number, which they only send as a Text to your phone. Hours today trying to sort. Phone lines busy or down. Had a very long chat room episode with EE on the website, ending in me being pressured into getting a phone I didn’t want.. 3 hours this morning trying to sort. I am on Facebook and Messenger. Can’t do WhatsApp without Phone.

Yes. A very small pond.

HOUSING

It started out as a reckless idea from Dominic Cummings — and now it’s in an official government paper, well on its way to becoming the law of the land.

The government just published the details of its plan to rip up the rules for new buildings in England. It’s shocking.

Rabbit hutch housing popping up on local greenspace — and no right to object. Slashing environmental protections. Affordable homes could become history.

Experts don’t mince their words: these changes will create a new ‘generation of slums’.

Meanwhile, in The USA Donald Trump on Homelessness..he is clueless.

Thank you for your email. There is nothing wrong with my card.I have completed other orders this week with no problems. The situation is that when the invoice asks for the pin number, which will be sent to the Mobile number. I cannot do this as my phone has died. I have spent hours on this trying to sort. It has become very stressful.

I am still stuck here. The Vertigo spells are back…My meds need adjusting? But the Surgery is of course, closed. Waiting, waiting, the numbers ..

‘you are in queue position 5……’ on and on and messages, endlessly repeating.. ‘do not ring the surgery’ do not …. I had no luck with getting repeat meds delivered and somehow it all went wrong and each med came at a different time and I am afraid to go out on my own. I don’t want to fall down outside again.. they don’t seem to care. My hospital appointment to follow up was cancelled because of lock down. It was in late March. It took 3 years to get anyone to take me seriously, just like my back drama in Deptford SE8 in 2008/9.

I am not holding my breath. Carry on sorting. Carry on writing. Carry on planting.

Carry on feeling anxious. Carry on wondering.. When? Carry on sorting.

Hi Carol,

We have received your order for your new handset. You can find everything you need to know about your order below.

Me

Blimey…I did not know how much I had not given away! Passed on…taken to Charity shops.. a lifetime of clothes obsession…jumble sales, markets, thrift stores charity shops ..never mind the high street.

Above
My Levi jeans with a sparkle waistcoat, worn a lot in 1970/80s. I still have it…

Below. A belt. The buckle was found in Goldbourne road at theend of Portobello road and I covered a rather boring belt with a piece of cloth from a ragged Kimono. my waist is no longer tiny. But my Daughter has that tiny waist. Perfect.

I have enjoyed the lock down look, beards where no beards were before…true colours underneath the pink red blue green.. a tousled look where once was neat…xxxxx

I received a new phone on the 8th June together with my insurance cover. Since then I have been unable to use this phone. I have tried ringing to no avail. I took the device to the EE shop in Folkestone when it opened this last week, and was told they could do nothing as the phone is faulty. That I would have to get in touch with EE.  I am 76 years old, I live alone, family elsewhere, and I need this phone. I have been a customer for many years now, I also have EE broadband. This has caused me much  distress. Quite frankly,  I am shocked at the service I have received.

Me.

In my world, I coped with solitary lockdown. I have lived alone for a long time. I value solitude. I always found groups and gatherings tricky, I get nervous and anxious. Lucky me, I was giving the gift of finding music. It helped with the socialising I found so difficult. Gave me some confidence. My ‘permission to sing’ Hat.  Gave me my voice and a means of expression. Now that has been slowly stripped away, like a muscle, if you don’t use it you lose it.

I sang to give myself an identity, a meaning, to heal and speak my truth. I moved to a new town. Then Covid-19. The end. I am slowly dying. Sitting in my pants eating crisps and Gu Lime cheese cakes.

ME.

Ring a ring o’ roses.
A pocketful of posies, a-tishoo, a-tishoo, we all fall down.

JUNE 10th.

Donald Trump.

TULSA, Okla. — President Trump’s attempt to revive his re-election campaign sputtered badly on Saturday night as he traveled to Tulsa for his first mass rally in months and found a far smaller crowd than his aides had promised him, then delivered a disjointed speech that did not address the multiple crises facing the nation or scandals battering him in Washington.

When he held a roundtable on policing in Dallas on Thursday, he failed to invite the county’s top three law enforcement officials, all of whom are black, and reiterated his demand for police to “dominate” the streets. “If someone’s really bad, you’re going to have to do it with real strength, real power,” he said.

US President Donald Trump

“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute.  And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?

US President, yes, President! Donald Trump

“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute.  And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?

“So it’d be interesting to check that.”

Pointing to his head, Mr Trump went on: “I’m not a doctor. But I’m, like, a person that has a good you-know-what.”

When asked on March 16 to rate his performance on the job, Trump did not hesitate. It was a 10, he insisted.  That is – 10 out of 10.

However, as we know, nothing like creativity to heal a troubled soul. I am mourning the loss of my singing…. but I know I am a lucky sod having my writing to do, that which keeps me semi sane?

My life has shrunk. Approximately.. to the size of a small Town garden

I feel so exhausted with all of this Covid-19 life, and scared, and throughly angry with our governments, we, the UK and the USA along with Brazil have and are, behaving appallingly. Below are my Saturday blooms from my garden. First time I have planted Radish. I had no idea they sprouted such pretty flowers, creamy and Pink. My friend Gavrielle came, musician and geologist. We were joined by a Butterfly who fluttered around us for an hour. I loved picking up flotsam and jetsam as I walked through my life. Nature’s gifts. She read me some of my beloved slices of slate and some stones….
I had a free lecture on that which has enchanted me for a lifetime. Gave me an idea of how wonderful it would have been to have the experience of studying. I left school in 1959 at the age of 15. No college days for me.. A life learning on the hoof. And you never stop learning if you are curious and let it in. My one little Lime is still growing… xx Ray Charles still in the shed.

Last week the government announced a £1.57bn rescue package for UK theatres, heritage sites, museums, arts centres, independent cinemas, galleries and concert halls. This is probably just about sufficient, if spread carefully, to keep a national infrastructure alive. But the package of aid, which the government – in its reflexively and unattractively boosterish way – calls “world-leading”, is no magic bullet. There will be a long and difficult route ahead for arts companies, as they navigate an uncertain future of reduced audience capacity, potential second waves and further lockdowns, and a shaky sense of how soon the public will be willing to partake once more in mass gatherings in confined spaces.

The difficulties will be particularly intense for arts organisations that have found themselves manoeuvred into a Conservative-approved, post-austerity path of entrepreneurialism: relying on maxing out footfall or box-office returns, while running successful side businesses.

The US president .. a full torrent of subconsciousness. Incoherent, deluded, out of his depth. An object lesson in unchecked, X-rated narcissism.

At the beginning of the Covid crisis, Australia was on fire. Now, California is on fire.

Farmworkers already worked in conditions that were ripe for abuse and exploitation, worker rights organisations say. And with larger and more destructive wildfires arriving with each coming year in California, advocates have found it even more difficult to protect their rights.
